Two new positions open
There are two new positions at PICC now accepting applications.
Manager, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Healing Service
Purpose of position:
The Position of Social Work Manager is to coordinate and manage the provision of a culturally appropriate, trauma-informed and healing focused service in response to women incarcerated and exiting Townsville Women’s Correctional Centre (TWCC). It is critical that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have access to culturally appropriate services that improve connection to family and culture to reduce the risk of re-offending.
The primary duty is to provide
- Supervision (formal and informal) of two or more full-time mental health workers; this also includes the professional development of the Mental Health workers
- Task Allocation, service development, appropriate reporting, and establishing culturally appropriate links
- Manage a case load of clients to provide counselling and psychological services, this includes working within TWCC as well as providing aftercare post release.
- Conduct stakeholder and communicate awareness and activities relating to the program
- Support and coordinate key stakeholder and community awareness relating to reforms, programs, services, networks and development of community driven responses, to address the many issues faced by women currently incarcerated and exiting TWCC.
- Lead a cross-agency integrated response that prioritise safety, healthy relationships and re-connection to family and community.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications:
- Suitable advanced tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or a related field or extensive experience in working within a culturally sensitive environment.
Mandatory:
- Possess or eligible to hold a Working with Children (Blue)
- Membership or eligibility for membership of the Australian Psychological Society or the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), or other relevant professional board or association.
- Appropriate qualifications in social work, counselling, psychology or mental health.
- Extensive experience in working in the field of Mental Health
- Experience in managing a team
- Meet necessary background and security checks
Key:
- Demonstrated relevant experience delivering psychological or counselling services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women who are currently incarcerated and exiting TWCC.
- Demonstrated experience working within an Indigenous non-profit organization
- Ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
- Effective interpersonal skills with experience and ability to communicate, support and work effectively with clients
- Demonstrated high-level problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Capability to initiate and monitor continuous improvement actions for policies, work practices, internal administration, service activities.
- Demonstrated capacity to supervise a team, including providing regular feedback, participating in performance reviews and performance management.
- Experience in recording and reporting on service user data with various client management software programs
- Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating clinical interventions and community-based programs using an evidence-based framework.
Highly Desirable:
- Experience in providing trauma informed interventions or an understanding of and experience in trans-generational trauma informed practice.
- Understanding of mandatory reporting obligations
- Experience in working with other government and non-government organisations
- Experience in providing formal and informal supervision to less experienced staff
- Experience in evaluating psychological services and programs
Remuneration:
Remuneration package includes a base salary of $110,000 - $130,000, depending on experience, plus super plus salary packaging.

Women’s Healing Service Support Worker
Purpose of position
The Support Worker is to provide a culturally appropriate trauma informed and healing focused service in response to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women incarcerated and exiting Townsville Women’s Correctional Centre (TWCC).
This includes working within TWCC as well as providing after-care post release. It is critical that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have access to culturally appropriate services that improve connection to family and culture to reduce the risk of re offending.
- Provide psychosocial education and health information to service users.
- Provide culturally appropriate, trauma informed counselling support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women incarcerated and exiting TWCC.
- Refer service users to other services as necessary
- Support Women’s Healing Service staff as required
SELECTION CRITERIA
Mandatory:
- Recognised qualification or training and extensive experience in Mental Health, Trauma Informed counselling with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Community Development, Criminal Justice or related discipline.
- Eligibility to hold a current Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
- Ability to use IT software and systems,
- Meet necessary background and security checks.
Key:
- Experience in providing trauma informed, culturally appropriate psychoeducation, support and case management in a multidisciplinary and interagency environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with service users, interagency representatives and multidisciplinary professionals.
- Willingness to undertake training and professional development activities.
Desirable:
- Experience working in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community based service.
- A current “C” Class Driver’s License
Remuneration:
Remuneration package of base salary $85,000 - $95,000, depending on experience, plus super plus salary packaging.
